Join a warm and supportive community of ceramics lovers of all ages in one of our longest running programs.
As a beginner, you’ll learn handbuilding to master the basics of clay handling, and then progress to wheel throwing. We also teach decorating, glazing and firing techniques. You’ll have access to a large studio with the materials, equipment and kiln capacity to help you create any piece you can imagine, from classic to experimental. Plus, when you’re enrolled in a ceramics class, you can sign up for Open Studio time. Advanced students will also learn how to develop their projects professionally and create a portfolio. Opportunities to sell your art are available as well.
Whether your child is taking Clay Play: Habitats, or you’re attending a Master Potter workshop, we think you’ll love this community that many students call their second home.

We are currently evaluating options for summer quarter programs if the shelter in place is lifted. Information about summer quarter class availability will be released when an updated Health Order is available from Contra Costa Health Services. In the meantime, please check out virtual class offerings at communityarts.org/virtual.
