Daily Sign-In and Sign-Out at Community Arts, Shadelands (111 N. Wiget Ln.)

This year, our camps will take place at the following location:

• Ages 6-18 years at Center for Community Arts - Shadelands (111 N Wiget Ln)

Parents and guardians must sign their student in and out of camp every day. Please present photo identification to camp staff daily at sign-out to confirm your child's authorized pick-ups. Only those authorized adults whose names are on file will be allowed to retrieve your child from camp. There are no exceptions.

Students ages 11-18 have the option to sign themselves in and out. Parent or guardian must give consent by completing the Independent Student Form found below under Forms.

Sign-In and Sign-Out Times are as follows: 

• Artist Studio & Teen Art Studio
• Sign-in: 8:45 am - 9:00 am 
• Sign-out:
• Half-Day Students 12:15 pm - 12:30 pm*
• Full-Day Students 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm*

• Theater Camp
• Sign-in: 8:45 am - 9:00 am
• Sign-out: 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm*

• Teen Art Intensives
• Sign-in: 8:45 am - 9:00 am
• Sign-out: 12:15 pm - 12:30 pm*

• Afternoon Specialty Camps
• Sign-in: 12:45 pm – 1:00 pm
• Please note: Students enrolled in both a morning half-day camp and an afternoon half-day specialty camp will follow the full-day camp schedule. Counselors will escort these students to lunch before their afternoon specialty camp.
• Sign-out: 4:00 pm – 4:15 pm* 

Please drop off and pick up students at the locations and times specified above

* Early sign out ends 15 minutes before regular sign-out begins; Half Day early sign-out cut off is 12 pm, Full Day early sign-out cut off is 3:45 pm. 

Program Policies

Early & Late Pick-Up

• Early Pick-Up

  Students that need to leave early should have a written note. You must also inform camp staff in-person during drop-off. Students with Independent Sign-Out, are not allowed to leave camp early without parent or guardian permission. Early pick-up ends at 12pm for Half Day and 3:45pm for Full Day students. 

• Late Pick-Up

  Please be sure to arrive on time to pick up your child from camp. Our camp has a formal policy in place for late pick-up for half-day and full-day:

  • The first two instances of late pick-up (totaling less than 15-minutes), will result in a written warning to the parent or guardian. Late pick-ups totaling more than 15-minutes will result in a $50 fee.
  • Third, and all subsequent late pick-ups will result in a $50 fee charged to the corresponding Center for Community Arts account

Absences & Emergencies

Please call the Shadelands Office at (925) 943-5846 if your child will not be attending camp, or will be missing part of the day.

If an emergency arises and you anticipate being late to pick-up, please call the Shadelands Office so necessary arrangements can be made. If your call goes to voicemail, please leave a message and a representative will review your call as soon as possible.

Camper Expectations & Camp Etiquette

In our art studios, we expect campers to promise to always be an ARTIST:

Attitude: Have a positive “I can do it” attitude!
Respect: Respect ideas, feelings, things, and people!
Try: Try your best!
Imagination: Show your creativity and make unique art!
Safety: Make good choices and raise your hand.
Target: Stay on task and use your time wisely.

Behaviors that are not accepted at Camp Community Arts are:

• Bullying, harassment, intimidation and physical aggression
• Refusing to follow behavior guidelines or camp rules.
• Using profanity, vulgarity, or obscenity Stealing or damaging property (personal or camp property)
• Refusal to participate in activities, cooperate with staff or comply with requests.
• Disrupting a program Leaving a program without permission
• Endangering the health and safety of children or staff
• Teasing, making fun of, or bullying other campers or staff

Failure to follow the outlined behavior contract will result in an unsafe environment for you, other campers, and staff. Depending on the severity and/or frequency of violations of this behavior contract, the following consequences may occur:

1. Verbal warning from a staff member.
2.  Written warning and conversation with guardian.
3. Sent home immediately for the day.
4. Day suspension from camp.
5. Dismissal from camp.

Withdraw

If you wish to withdraw, please refer to our Arts and Recreation Registration Policies.

 Quality Assurance

If you are not happy with the quality of the program after attending the first day of camp, call us, tell us what was wrong, and we will work to make it right.

Course Cancellations

A camp session may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met. If so, a full refund will be issued. In addition, if a camp session is canceled due to weather or air quality, and a make-up session is not offered, a refund will be provided. Refunds will not be provided for weather-related concerns if the program is running as scheduled

Preparing for Camp  

Camp Attire

The dress code at Camp is casual and ready for fun! Please consider the following recommendations:

• Comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty.
• Closed-toe shoes.
• A backpack or tote bag for personal belongings.
  • If your child is prone to accidents, set a change of clothes in a name-labeled Ziplock and keep in their bag.

Please be sure that all belongings are marked with your child’s full name. We will keep any lost items we find in the camp office. Any unclaimed lost-and-found items will be donated or discarded at the end of camp.

Phones. Toys, & Other Items

Camp Community Arts does not allow skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, and shoes with retractable skate wheels.

For safety reasons, please leave all personal items at home. If a cell phone is needed for safety, we ask it to be stored away and only used for emergencies. Cell phones should not be taken out during class including breaks, transitions, and field trips. Please leave all video games, trading cards, iPods, etc. at home

We are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items that are brought to camp

Special Assistance & Support

Whenever possible, Camp Community Arts supports typically developing children as well as children with identified and non-identified disabilities. Please let us know if you anticipate your child needing additional support during camp. We encourage families needing additional support to complete the Student Support Questionnaire and contact us prior to the start of camp so that we can ensure a successful and positive camp experience for your child.

If we are not able to support a child with the resources that we have available at Camp Community Arts, we will share recommendations for other camp programs that are available through Arts and Recreation.

Snacks & Lunch

Snacks and lunch are NOT provided by our camp. We recommend that everyone pack 2-3 healthy snacks each day and a water bottle. Parents or guardians of full-day students are responsible for providing a bag lunch for their child every day of camp.

Camp is a nut and peanut-free zone!

Please be mindful of this policy as we have students with a variety of allergies that will be attending camp. We do not allow food sharing in order to help ensure a safe environment for all students.

 

 

This summer, Camp Community Arts is excited to introduce something new: ClassDojo! ClassDojo is an online classroom management platform and app that allows camp staff to record and track student progress and behavior, as well as share important notifications. Our camp counselors will use ClassDojo to share photos and keep you updated on all the fun moments and important notes from camp. We will only be using the basic features of ClassDojo, so families will not need to subscribe to the premium version. Parents will receive an invitation link to their child's class in the camp welcome email one week before the start of camp. Stay connected and enjoy all the exciting updates throughout the camp!

ANY volunteer or one-on-one aide* age 18+ who is working with youth, elderly or disabled populations (at risk or highly vulnerable populations) must comply with the City of Walnut Creek’s fingerprinting and mandated reporter training requirements. Any volunteer or aide is required to check in and check out with Walnut Creek Arts + Rec staff.

* A one-on-one aide is a person who is at a camp, class or program and only assisting with a specific participant. These aides are usually paid for and supplied by the family of the participant. This aide must show proof of fingerprinting and mandated reporter training before the start of any program they attend. Walnut Creek Arts + Rec must maintain on file contact information, emergency contact information, proof of fingerprinting clearance & certification of having successfully completed the mandated reporter training prior to the one-on-one aide being on site.

 

Please be sure to review the full Arts and Rec Volunteer / Aide Protocol if you plan to volunteer or have an aide accompany your child / adult to class on a regular basis. 

Daily Wellness Screening Process

The health and safety of all participants at Camp Community Arts is our top priority. Parents and guardians should conduct the following wellness screening daily before attending camp. If you answer YES to any of the following questions, please refrain from attending camp until your child is symptom free for 48 hours without the assistance of medication.

1) Has your child experienced any of the following symptoms in the past 48 hours (not related to any chronic illness including allergies, migraines, etc.):

• Fever/chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath
• Fatigue
• Muscle/body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea

2) Within the past 14 days, has your child been in close physical contact (6 feet or closer for at least 15 minutes) with a person who is known to have COVID-19 or with anyone who has symptoms consistent with COVID-19?

3) Is your child isolating or quarantining because they may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 or worried that you may be sick with COVID-19?

Student Showcase

Join us on the final Friday of camp from 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. for half-day students or 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. for full-day students for a gallery walk of your student's work. Theater Camp performance starts at 4:15 p.m. The student showcase will take place at the Civic Park Preschool for ages 4-5 and in the Shadelands Auditorium for ages 6-18.
